The first official team meet for the Dartmouth ski team is the four-event meet that highlights Dartmouth's Winter Carnival on February 8-9. Actually, the Dartmouth Nordic squad gets into action this coining weekend when they compete in home territory at the Hanover Invitational Cross-country Relay Races and Jump.

With snow aplenty, the team has been practicing at the Dartmouth Skiway daily and competing in early season meets in the East. At the Louise Orvis Giant Slalom Trophy Race at Bromley, Dave Harwood finished fourth and Bill Smith fifth, while Smith came in fourth and Harwood fifth a week later at the Joel Coffin Slalom in Franconia. Two other Dartmouth skiers, Monk Bancroft and Bob Richmond, placed 15th and 16th respectively in the Franconia cross-country and jumping competition.

Former Dartmouth ski team members also made news with Bill Beck '54 winning the Orvis Trophy race, while Tom Corcoran '52 came in sixth. Beck and Corcoran placed one-two at Franconia in the slalom. Charlie Tremblay '52, one of Dartmouth's great jumpers, beat out Art Tokle and Art Devlin to win the Franklin D. Roosevelt jump at Bear Mountain, New York in early January.
