The Dartmouth track team, one of the weakest in recent years, has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks. It defeated Brown 67-37 mid-February, finished ninth (ahead of tenth-place Brown) in the Heptagonal Meet early in March, and then lost to Yale, 74-30, one week later.

Captain Walt Clarkson won the mile and two-mile runs to lead his team to the win over Brown. Paul Merriken took first in the 100-yard dash, while Bob Jeffrey won the 35-pound weight toss and Bill Buchanan and Ernest Metzger tied for first place in the pole vault. Sophomore John Chapman won the 45-yard hurdles, with Chanman and Harlor finishing one-two in the high jump.

In the Heptagonal Meet John Harlor's broad jump of 22' 11 2/3" won him Dartmouth's only first place. Walt Clarkson ran one of the best races of his career to capture third in the mile behind Lew Olive of Army and Harvard's Rosenbaum. Bill Buchanan, sophomore pole vaulter, tied for third in that event going up to 13' 4". Yale won the Heptagonal Meet, followed by Cornell and Army.

As was expected, Yale had little trouble a week later defeating Dartmouth in a dual meet 74-30. The Elis swept eight first places in the twelve events. Walt Clarkson took firsts in the mile and two-mile for Dartmouth, with Dick Hogarty second in the two-mile event. Sandy Heath won the 600-yard ran, and John Harlor's first in the broad jump and Paul Merriken's third in the 1,000 accounted for most of the remaining Big Green points.
