The Dartmouth swimming team met Pennsylvania and Navy on two successive days, won both meets and set new records. The Indians swamped Pennsylvania 57-27 and defeated Navy 49-35, while at the same time Dartmouth freestyle ace John Glover set a total of six new records in two days. Against Penn Glover broke the Dartmouth record and Penn Pool record in the individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle. Glover's time of 1:34.5 in the individual medley smashed the Penn record set by Johnstone of 1:37.1 and the Dartmouth record of 1:37.5. His time of 50.7 in the 100-yard freestyle bettered the Penn mark set by Nugent of Rutgers and the Dartmouth record (51.2) by Jock MacIntyre. Against Navy the following day Glover swam to two additional records, winning the 220 in 2:11.9 and the 100-yard race in 50.9 to establish two new Navy pool marks.

Against Penn the Indians won all the freestyle events. Captain John Heyn took a first in the 50-yard race and a second in the 100 behind Glover. Creighton Hart and Duke Hust finished one-two in the 220, while Hart and Steve Mullins did likewise in the 440. Tuck Creamer and Jim Venman placed first and second in the dive. The relay team of Dick Mount, Bill Crate, Gene Elsbree and Dick Karslake annexed that event.

At Navy the competition was closer, with Dartmouth winning 49-35. The score was tied going into the diving events, but first and second places here by Creamer and Venman, plus the same winning combinations in the backstroke (Rip Coffin and Phil Pendleton) and the 440-yard freestyle (Duke Hust and Steve Mullins) ensured the win for the Big Green.

Dartmouth now has a record of four wins and no defeats and is the only undefeated Dartmouth varsity winter squad. Seven dual meets and the Eastern championships remain, but both Harvard and Yale will prove very tough. Otherwise Dartmouth should fare well and turn in some top performances at the Easterns and possibly at the National meet.
