Friday, June II through Sunday, June 13 those are the dates.
It has intrigued the Secretary to examine the map of the United States and see which is further, as the crow flies, from Hanover, Eddie Grover or Decker Field. Well, Decker wins out by about 100 miles.
You remember what Eddie has written: Iexpect to see you at Hanover in June.
Decker has written: Will be seeing you inHanover in early June, the Lord willing.
A later letter from Decker indicates that he is to have a large bodyguard with him, daughters, a son-in-law and grandchildren. Will you need an extra dormitory, Decker, to take care of them all?
Since the youngest member of our Class, Kid Martyn, becomes 80 years old on June 29, it will be in order to make our Reunion in part a celebration of his birthday. Likewise, Phil Marden, the next youngest who became 80 in January, will be remembered.
A ten-page letter from Ben Welton discloses that he is taking his duties as a member of the committee on arrangements for our 60th with characteristic seriousness. In spite of the cold weather he has returned to his summer home in Vermont in order, doubtless, to be on hand to attend to these duties.
Arthur Stone, who has also been in Florida (but for a shorter time than Ben) was expected home about April 12 in order to assign rooms to the members of the '94 family who will come to the 60th.
Suppose we look at our record of attendance at former reunions. Here it is:
Living GraduatesYear Graduates Present Percentage 1897 86 35 40.7 1899 86 24 27.2 1904 84 41 48.8 1909 84 49 58.3 1914 84 70 83-3 1919 83 60 12.3 1924 81 54 66.6 1929 78 55 68.8 1934 63 47 74.6 1939 58 39 67.3 1944 48 36 75.0 1949 31 19 61.3
Can we in 1954, at our 60th, win our own cup? This last time, and the only time we did it, was twenty years ago. Forty years ago we got out seventy men, from a possible 84, and secured our highest percentage of 83.3. But we were surprassed by '64, who got a percentage of 90.9, which must be an all-time high for any class, with twenty present out of a possible 22. Question: How many of our eighteen living members will be present June 11-13 1954?
REUNION ROOMS: Dormitory reservation cards received in late April must be returned to the Bursar by May 29, after which date space may not be available.
