Understand that Bill Conway has accepted a full-time teaching job at Thayer next year. Nothing official on this as yet, but here's hoping I'm not jumping the gun when I say congratulations.

Last March saw an interesting article in the Manchester Union about Charlie (L.N.)Tremblay. It was written by Frank Elkins, lately of the N. Y. Times but now free lance. Frank says that he had quite a telephone conversation with Charlie while in the vicinity of Trondheim, Norway. He found the former Dartmouth ski captain on leave from the Army and following the circuit. As usual, Charlie has done rather well — winning the slalom, downhill, and the jump at the military championships in Berchtesgarden, for example.

Kay Gallant left last April for Europe. He plans to spend his time both on the continent and in Africa. Rumor has it that his bon voyage party was the most.

Reverting to the military, as we have to do these days for the greater part of the class, I note that Stew Schackne was among the Marine second lieutenants who was enrolled in a five-month course at Quantico. At Camp Stoneman, California, Louis Zehner, 2nd lieutenant, was recently assigned to duties at the Post Finance Office after attending a course at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was graduated from Tuck last June. 2nd Lieutenant Johnny Grocott, USMC, participated in the practice amphibious landings at Iwo Jima last March. He was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division as a machine gun platoon leader and was shipped to Japan in August of 1953.

On the academic side of the agenda, there are two notes of interest. During midyear graduation ceremonies at Harvard Don Unger received his M.A. in Teaching. Where he will take up these duties is as yet unknown to me. And from Hanover a March release from the News Service informs us that George Sherman is one of four men who has been awarded a Reynolds Scholarship. He will study SovietGerman relations in London at the School of Economic and Political Science and the School of Slavonic and East European Studies. A history major at Dartmouth, he received the Charles F. Brooker Fund Scholarship and upon graduation he received the James K. Colby Fellowship to study Russian culture at Columbia.

Not quite under the heading of the Academic or Military is an article that appeared a while back in the Louisville Courier Journal. The author was Cpl. Bob Adams who was assigned at the time to the Third Armored Division Public Information Office at Fort Knox as reporter and feature writer. The subject was tanks and the men who work with them and the story was incidentally a most interesting one.

Out in Boulder, Colorado, Jim Cooke and his wife Jane are winding up their stay at the U. of C. where Jim will get his A.B.S. this month. From Colorado they plan to swing East for brother Phil's graduation and then on to Europe for the rest of the year. Their trip to the Continent includes the Grand Tour on bicycles. About the turn of the year they plan to return to Swampscott where Jim again will take up the task of provider. Incidentally, for the benefit of those of you who don't read the paper from Denver and points west, you might be interested to know that this twosome, who claim to be only weekend skiers, competed in the Nationals earlier this year. Jane now has a class "A" rating and has upwards of eight medals to her credit.

Further west than that - Berkeley, California, to be exact - Jack Clow writes that come July he becomes a civilian and while the military life has left something to be desired, he hasn't suffered too much. Through his duties as businessman-in-training for the Air Force he has acquired his M.B.A. at U.C. He goes on to say that life in that area is far from hard to take and offers proof positive and sanctuary for any '52s that might be in the region. The address is 1210 Kains Avenue.

From an old standby from 9 Keogh Lane, New Rochelle, comes more. Dick Dalbeck is practically working out of his home town in that he is assigned to the icebreaker USS Atka out of Boston. Don MacLeod is on the USSMidway and Vic Trautwein is on the USSTarawa. Gil Ellenberger is aboard the repair ship USS Jupiter and Jon Walton is living a life of ease aboard the USS President Jackson.Ben Hadley is or was putting the USS Barto in mothballs in Dego.

Ran into Frank Heineman in Norfolk at the shipyard where he was putting the USSIntrepid into commission. Says he plans to look up Dave Hawkins and his wife Nancy out at the Phib Base if he gets the chance.

I note that Cab Benisch is working for Pan American and when last heard of was in Rome for a short stay.

And with the merry months of May and June upon us there is more activity in this section of the column once again. Starting west and working east; in Toledo, Dick Nye and Joyce Roper announced their engagement in late March. Joyce is a graduate of Denison University and Dick received his master's at Tuck last spring. They plan an autumn wedding. In Hartford, Conn., Bucky Linman and Mary Pelletier announced their betrothal early in April. Mary is a Colby Jr. alumna and Bucky is associated with the Wayzata Sheet metal works. Plans are for a June wedding. Jim Binder and Catherine Walton also announced their engagement in April. Catherine completes her last year at Barnard College this June and Jim is serving at the Naval Communications Center in Washington. From Hyannis, Mass., comes word that John Hart and Sally Kellogg are to be married in August. Sally is a graduate of Green Mountain Jr. and is presently an editor of the Metropolitan Lithographing and Engraving Company in Everett, Mass. John is working in the Boston office of the Connecticut General Insurance Company. Frank Osgood, Lt. jg. USNS, and Mary Jane Dick plan nuptials come the 25th of this month. Mary Jane is a graduate of Colby Jr. and has been attending the University of Penn. this past year. Missed one here. From Atherton and Palo Alto comes news that Lee Cliff and Nell Sesnon plan a wedding in the near future. Nell attended the University of California and Lee is or was stationed at the Army Language School in Monterey.

As for the weddings of recent note, JackColeman and Mary Hargrave were married in Chicago last April 14. Jack has been working with Pan American but latest reports indicated that he was to report for Army duty after a Bermuda wedding trip. Roy Abbott and Leigh Hinsie became bride and groom in New York last April 17. Leigh was graduated from Centenary Jr. College and Roy is now with the Chase National Bank. They plan to live in Brooklyn. Angus Russell was among the ushers assisting in the ceremony.

So ends the year. Here's hoping you all enjoy the summer months as much as I plan to. At any rate, keep me informed as to what gives over these next few months. By the way, the individual Alumni Fund gifts for the class are running higher than they did last year, but we need more participation by lots more of us. If you have forgotten the Fund or haven't been asked yet, send a few bucks along, and do it now. We need your push.

See you next fall.
