Germania Will Present Three Plays in Europe
June 1954

EMBARKED upon an international schedule, the acting members of Germania will for the second summer present German plays in a number of cities on the Continent. Sailing on the Canberra on June 10, three juniors and a sophomore will go first to Erlangen, in Bavaria, to attend and participate in the International Students Theatre Week; then, under contract with a German agency, they are scheduled to give performances of three one-act plays by Hans Sachs, a contemporary of Martin Luther, at the Universities of Cologne, Bonn, Frankfurt, Munich, Bamberg, Wurzburg and Erlangen. In Eschweiler, the home town of Prof. Stephan J. Schlossmacher, dramatic coach and adviser of Germania, the players will'have a warm welcome, as their performances there last summer were enthusiastically received. Plays will also be given at the neighboring water resorts of Muenster am Stein and Bad Pyrmont.

The plays in this summer's repertory have been well audience-tested. All three - Der Fahrende Schiller (The Traveling Student), Der Tote Mann (The Dead Man), and Der Rossdieb Zu Fünsing (The Horse Thief of Fünsing) - were presented during May at Dartmouth; McGill University; Carleton College in Ottawa; the German Evangelical Church in Toronto; and Middlebury College.

The members of the casts of the three plays are: .Ronald F. Hengen '55 of Richmond Hill, N. V.: Morgan J. McGuire '55, Hamden, Conn.; Peter K. Terplan '55, Buffalo, N. Y.; and Tomm B. Shockey '56, Larchmont, N. Y. In addition to Professor Schlossmacher, Rolf A. Engelhardt '54, of Pittsburgh, president of Germania, and Wolfgang Thumb, exchange student from Vienna, will accompany the players.

The players going to Germany rehearse a scenefrom "Der Rossdieb Zu Funsing."
