Some idea of the competition faced by the Dartmouth tennis team may be had by glancing at the recent New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament held at Hanover. The Big Green, led by Captain Steve Fast, got only one player - Stew Stearns - into the third round and he lost to George Keesll of Williams 7-5, 6-4. Dartmouth's doubles hopes likewise went aglimmering when Fred Darche and Dave Kerr were defeated in the quarter-finals 6-1, 6-2.

Stew Stearns of Dartmouth was the only member of the Big Green to make the tournament seedings. He was ranked fifth. Captain Steve Fast was dropped in the opening round, while the other team members were defeated in the second round of play.

A drenching rain on Sunday postponed the finals of the tournament, but they will be played later at Yale as the Elis swept their entire team into the singles and doubles finals and the playoffs will be entirely Yale.

One day before the New England tourney the Big Green tennis team lost to Yale 9-0 in what resembled nothing more than a practice warm-up session for the Bull-dogs.

Two matches this past month, with Columbia and Amherst, were rained out. Earlier the Indians lost to Harvard 8-1 after defeating both Army and Penn by 6-3 scores.
