"Only eight more shopping days 'til Xmas. ... Only seven more...Television's blaring, "Gift musts." For some reason, despite the constant reminders, still haven't started the Christmas shopping. Ought to be able to get to it tomorrow, maybe the next day. Thus approaches the Yuletide. Let's see what it has in store for '54.

Slipping out from under their desk lamps to partake of the Christmas spirits are a band of schoolsters. . . Dujring the summer, we hear, med-man AI Edmundson was studying in New York City on a Rockefeller Foundation Grant, and Lloyd Tepper, another M.D. in the making, is at the Harvard Med School this year.

Dick Watt was booked and booking last semester in Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship. During the spring Dick stumbled upon Irwin Herrmann, sitting on the steps of the U. S. Exchange Students dorm in Paris. Herm is at Oxford on a Reynold's Scholarship. Dick, sitting through a season of Big Ten football, is at Michigan with a Teaching Fellowship.

By the way, we'd forgotten to mention that Bob Bassett and Jay Engel broke from Harvard last June with A.M.T. degrees under arm. Jack Mullen is at Stanford Business School; Tom and Kay Tyler and two young 'uns are in Hanover while Tom finishes his Thayer affair.

In partial compensation for the holiday leave problem, there will be (commanding officers obliging) a number of shiny silver bars purchased this month. Congrats to all the new Lieutenant "jaygees" and first "louies."

Just for drill we'll call a muster of the A.P.O. and F.P.O. addresses we have to see who'll probably be eating Christmas dinner "out" this year. On the Pacific side are LeeHarris USA; Lt. Art Kelleher USMC; WellesGray USA; Bill Jenkins USMC aboard the USS Oriskany; and Lt. George Nimitz USA. Clint Gaylord is aboard the USS Conflict somewhere in the Pacific.

Over across the Atlantic we've got Lt. Harold Harris USA; Pvt. Tom Kelsey USA, Ens.Dave Briggs aboard the USS Fessenden; Lt.George Hume USA; Ens. Dana Lowe on the USS Hawkins; Lt. Steve Mullins USA; and Ens. John Musa out of Thayer and aboard the USS Antietam.

In the U. S. we have Lt. Rolf Engelhardt at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md"; IrwinLevine at Officers Candidate School in Jamaica, N. Y.; Army Lt. Larry Russell at Fort Knox with the tank men; Giff Wigglesworth in the Marines and checking out of Marblehead Neck, Mass.; Lt. Bill Blacksher in Army Ordnance at Aberdeen; Lt. Donn Hill and family with the Air Force at Wichita Falls, Texas; Lt. Horace Taylor at Lowry AFB, Colo.; and Lt. Joe Loew at Turner AFB. Albany, Ga.

Lt. Charlie Griming, after a brief whirl in the banking business in New London, Conn., took off his white collar, journeyed to the Army's Aberdeen, later moved on to Fort Knox. Dave and Judy McLaughlin are eluding the wintery blast in Winter Haven, Fla. Dave is flying with Air Force. While in Texas several months ago, Dave reports having sighted Sonny Silmore, Ted Hartshorn, Mike Papantones, Ned Hoban, Mike Payson, Joe Picarrelli and a flock of other Air Force men. PaulMackey and Skip Abbey were seen at Florida's Bartow AFB.

Hip-deep in solid precipitation, Kev Sullivan, at Loring AFB in Limestone, Me., notes that Clark Murphy is Food Service Officer at Presque Isle AFB some 23 miles by dog team from Limestone. The "Murphs," we hear, are expecting a papoose shortly.

Rollie Hay ties, George Fitzgerald, Jim Mannion,Bob McShane, Bob Curtis and Jim (M)Fisher won their observers wings at Ellington AFB this fall. Rollie is now at Electronic Countermeasures School at Keesler AFB, Bi loxi, Miss.; Fitz is at Controller school, Tyndall AFB, Fla.; Jim's at Tyndall and expecting to go on to Sacramento, Calif., shortly; Bob is with the Strategic Air Command in Topeka, Kan.

Accolades to Pete Peters, who was runner-up in the Otis AFB golf tourney last summer. Another Air Force man, Lt. Dick and bride Marjory Trowbridge, are residing at East Meadow, N. J., while Dick's with the Office of Information service at Roslyn, L. I.

For parties and bawles this Christmas Barbaraand Dick Barker have an entry by the name of William Dale Barker, born August 28. The Barkers are living at Arlington, Mass.

Another stocking will hang by the chimney at Skip and Connie Grinton's in Joliet, Ill. Stephen Folger Grinton weighed in at seven pounds on September 21. Currently Skip is in Korea with the Army's 55th Ordnance Company. Also increasing the "surplus population" and "raising-the-dickens" is Bruce Matheson Jr. born to Mr. and Mrs. (Sr.) of the same name on July 14. Bruce, last we knew, was a Junior Civil Engineer with the State of California Highway Department.

While the bachelors temporarily put down their glasses and angle toward the mistletoe our newlyweds nonchalantly sit this one out. No longer allowed to dart under the coveted green leaves is recently-wed Lt. Pete Townsend USAF. His bride is Irene Bohr of Rutgers and North Plainfield, N. J. Bob Mower was best man at the August 27 union. The Townsends live in East Meadow, L. I., while Pete's at Mitchel AFB.

Last June Ens. John Pope sealed vows with Virginia Lee Starr of Kennett Square, Pa. A Mt. Holyoke lass, Virginia is down in Norfolk, Va., as John sails the USS Sperry.

Helping John Crowe decorate the family Christmas tree this year is Joan Rutty of Miami U. The Crowes were married July 2 in Montclair, N. J. Bob Oneal best-manned for the affair. Both John and Bob are M.D. strikers. Way back on June 4, Ens. Don Keller and Jo Ann Duval were wedded in Saratoga Springs, Fla. Don was at Navy Supply School in Athens, Ga. Jo Ann is a grad of the Roosevelt School of Nursing in NYC. Best man was Phil Kaiser.

Living at Saddle River, N. J., are Mr. andMrs. Pete Kenyon. The Missus is the former Barbara Walker of Tufts and Ridgewood, N. J. Pete was at Tuck last year. Another June bride was Peggy Streifler of Barnard College and Manhattan, who married Jerry Barton on June 19. Jerry is at the NYU Med School. In Tarrytown, N. Y., Cliff Feakes took Sue Paley as his June bride. Sue, at Skidmore, is from the Bronx. Bruce Classon upheld the best man's chores. Also in June, Margery Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., took Ned Jarret for better or worse.

Lucia Roraback of Connecticut College and Torrington, Conn., wedded Nels Putnam on July 23. The Putnams are living in Tacoma, Wash., while Nels, a Pvt. USA is at Fort Lewis. On the same day Jay Chandler and Fleur Elizabeth Varney knotted ties in Lakewood, Ohio.

"May your daze be merry and tight"... . This is the message you'll probably get from Gus Wedell, who tours Chicago's Lake Shore Drive area as salesman for the Hiram Walker's Distributing Company. Al Terrill is apprenticing as an engineer for the J. E. Sirrine Company of Spring Grove, Pa., and Dave Snow is counting shekels for Boston's First National Bank. Dave's in a training program at the Bean Town bank.

Dave Bartlett was promoted to special agent to "handle" Essex County, N. Y., for the Kemper Insurance Company. Dick Gorsey checks in as sales correspondent for the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation in Indianapolis, Ind., and Gib Dyke is in Norfolk, Va., working with Merritt, Chapman & Scott.

Before closing out the 1955 edition, KevSullivan sends a brief message regarding the Alumni Fund to which we brought 414 individual contributions for a Class gift of We had a 68% contribution total and reached 93% of our total goal. Says Kev:

"Fifty-four recently faced its first Alumni Fund drive - a true test for all alumni of Dartmouth College - and responded in a manner which was heartwarming. To those of you who so generously gave, I say simply 'thank you'. You were the ones who made the Fund drive a success, and who helped lead Dartmouth to a record-breaking campaign. . . . Your efforts started the Class on its way as alumni, and your cooperation exemplified the Dartmouth spirit to its fullest. . . . For your loyalty and support, thank you. Your college is that much stronger because of the job you did."

That's it for this year. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and see you in '56.
