On January 1 Head Agent George Scott announced a $75,000 Alumni Fund goal for 1992. "1926 can make it!" he says. Yearly his classmates prove him correct. Unusual, wonderful 1926 news was that Malcolm Merrill married Jane Hussey (nickname Jennie) January 29, 1991, in Pinehurst, Ga. Unfortunately, in August Mal was found to have a malignant brain tumor. Early this year they were still in Ogunquit, Maine, and the tumor was unchanged. Later they may go to Pinehurst.
Dr. Paul and Esther Harper, Baltimore, Md., planned to spend January in Florida, Paul believing both are reasonably well for their age. A cardiologist confirmed Esther's diagnosed angina, then prescribed a calciumblocker drug, tennis as usual, and thinking positively about exercise and mental healthall equals medical progress?
Our durable historian Ed Hanlon has long since returned from a kidney operation at a Sarasota, Fla., hospital. For about 12 years Ed has won every battle with bladder cancer—his wife, Evelyn, assisting in every way. Now he resumes his attention to the past and present doings of classmates.
Dick and Dorothy Husband were "reconciled to winter" in Tallassee, Fla., due to Dick's flu and mild pneumonia. Dorothy also was not feeling too well.
Had Hadlock's wife, Josephine, wrote thanking 1926 for Had's birthday card. She says he had a series of small strokes last summer which left him totally disabled, and he is at Kendall-Longwood nursing wing, Kennett Square, Penn. He reads news, articles, Dartmouth media, and has taped music. Ten minutes away, Josephine visits frequently, and their four children visit when possible.
