Milton Alpert '32, formerly Deputy State Comptroller, has been named Assistant Attorney General of the State of New York, it was announced by Attorney General Jacob K. Javits on January 3. Mr. Alpert, an authority on municipal law, will act as Mr. Javits' chief consultant on municipal affairs and will be attached to the Appeals and Opinions Bureau of the Attorney General's Albany office. In 1945 he joined the legal staff of the State Comptroller and in 1951 was made associate counsel.
Active since 1943 in New York State government, Mr. Alpert is executive secretary and counsel of the State Defense Council, an advisory member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Interstate Cooperation, and a member of the Drafting Committee of the Council of State Governments. He has also been serving without compensation as director of the State Social Security Agency. He is president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Eastern New York.
A native of Lakewood, N. J., Mr. Alpert was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Dartmouth and graduated cum laude. He received the LL.B. degree from Columbia Law School in 1935. He and his wife have two children, a daughter, 11, and a son, 7.
