"Why I Like Dartmouth"
MAY 1932

Young Malcolm Armstrong, age 13, of Concord, Mass., won a prize of $l.OO for his letter about Dartmouth which recently appeared in the Boston Sunday Herald in a contest for the best 150-word article about one's favorite college. He gives four reasons for his preference for Dartmouth including the fact that he thinks that President Hopkins is "the best college president in the whole United States of America."

Armstrong's letter reads as follows: "Of all colleges I like Dartmouth best. First, I like the location. I think a college in the country is better for the pupils than a college in the city. It is more healthful and keeps scholars physically fit. There are not so many distractions. Second, I like the size. Dartmouth, with an enrollment of 2000, is neither too large nor too small. Third, the sports at Dartmouth are an important feature—her football, hockey, basketball and skating teams. Winters at Dartmouth are always snowy, which makes skiing, skating and snow shoeing possible. Fourth, one of the present reasons for Dartmouth's strength is the wonderful help that President Hopkins has given. I think he is the best college president in the whole United States of America.

"These are the main reasons why I hope to go to Dartmouth."
