Scores have been lower lately, and the games have been closer. In fact, Coach Dave Gavitt, leading the team since. Doggie Julian's stroke on December 28, caused both mighty Princeton and formidable Yale to worry with a strategy that mixes stalling and racing.

The season was ending with the likelihood that Dartmouth would again be in the Ivy League cellar, but the one-win and ten-loss league record at press time was more encouraging than the naked statistic indicated.

For one thing, Dartmouth held nationally-ranked Princeton to a frustrating 16-30 score just three weeks after suffering a record-breaking 42-116 loss to the same Tiger team.

"That's a score that didn't do Princeton much good," said one Dartmouth rooter. "And even though we lost, it was a great way to bounce back against a team that went out of its way to rub our nose in the dirt the first time out."

Both Columbia and Brown squeaked by Dartmouth by two-point victory margins, and Yale didn't break away for a solid lead until well into the second half for a final 71-61 win. The latter game was a regionally televised contest on February 18 from Hanover.
