CHARLES E. CRANE '06 has recently retired from the National Life Insurance Company, Montpelier, Vt., after 23 years as a specialist in publicity, public relations and advertising for that company. Upon his retirement he was assistant to the president.
His work with National Life was preceded by extensive newspaper and advertising experience. He was well known for his feature stories when he worked for the Associated Press in Boston, New York City, Pittsburgh and other cities. After he settled in Vermont, his reputation as a humorist brought him more speaking engagements than he could fill. Mr. Crane is the author of two books, Let Me ShowYou Vermont and Winter in Vermont, which have sold well throughout the country. He continues to write a column, "Made in Vermont," popular with newspaper readers in the state.
In addition to his years with the Associated Press, Mr. Crane was editor of the Brockton Times and later of the Middlebury Register and the Brattleboro Reformer. His newspaper column "Pendrift" was published in book form. He holds the honorary degree of Master of Arts from Norwich University.
Mr. Crane is the brother of the late Ephraim H. Crane '98, president of the Vermont Printing Company in Brattleboro.
