The Dartmouth Economic Research Council—a joint project of the Tuck School and New York alumni —is completing its study on "Broadening the Basis of Stock Ownership." At a meeting on March 3, RichardAllen T'50 and Arthur Bullock T'50, chairmen of two research panels, reported their findings on corporate demand for equity capital and on types of installment plans for selling stocks. The Council hopes to finish its final report in time for publication in late spring.

Mr. Logan, coordinator for the research project, is also co-author with William H. Newman, Samuel Bronfman Professor at the Columbia Graduate School of Business, of Management of Expanding Enterprises. Published in March, this book is a report of research into the administration of large-scale enterprises carried out by the authors and a group of top business and professional men.

Mr. Broehl's article, "Span of Control — Tall or Flat?" appeared in the February issue of Manage magazine.

Mr. Olsen reviewed the Army Medical Field Service Corps' curriculum in administration at Fort Sam Houston and gave two lectures to senior officers. He also attended a meeting of the Iowa Council on Economic Education in Des Moines.

On March 5 Tuck was host to a group of executives from 21 Vermont and New Hampshire industrial firms. After a luncheon in Stell Hall, Dean Upgren spoke on "The Economic Outlook." Mr. Burleigh arranged the program.

Mr. Frey, on leave for the second semester, is vacationing with Mrs. Frey in South America. Before leaving, he and Mr. Sargent and Associate Dean Hill spent February 23 at Kendall Mills as guests of George Sprague T'26, and visited with Lee Van Voorhis T'49, Burt Flounders T'53 and Tom Brooks '39.

Tuck School students have been filling many speaking engagements. ChristopherBuxton, Rotary Fellow from England, addressed the Franklin Rotary Club on February 8. He was accompanied on the trip by Dean Hill. Buxton also spoke at the annual dinner of the Boston alumni on February 16. On February 21 Mr. Hill took Ben Bowden,David McLaughlin and Joseph Saba to Manchester where the students spoke at a Kiwanis meeting; later they were guests of the New Hampshire Fire Insurance Company and visited with H. B. Gilmore T'35, treasurer; they also saw Nort Virgien T'48, now manager of radio station WFEA. Bowden, McLaughlin, Ned Hoban and Joseph Saba spoke at a meeting of the Littleton Men's Club March 3; the Tuck School chorus, directed by Peter Kenyon, was also on the program.

Bill Portman T'47 was elected to the Board of Directors of The Charles William Doepke Manufacturing Company. A recent visitor in Hanover was Ken Edelson T'51 who was making a sales trip for Campus Sweater & Sportswear Company of Cleveland. G. Harry Chamberlaine T'22 has been named vice president and advertising director of Good Housekeeping magazine. W. B. Potter T'21 has been selected to serve on the Printers' Ink Annual Advertising Award Jury. From Jacksonville, Fla., Jack Lotz '51 writes that job opportunities are "amazing"; he has taken a job with the Prudential Life Insurance Company.

Recent guest lecturers included Jim Hamilton T'23, Harry F. Tomlinson, director of information for W. R. Grace & Company, and Harry A. Jacobs Jr. '42, sales manager of the syndicate department, Bache & Company.

Two more booklets have been published under the Sloan Foundation grant: "Technological Change — Who Gets the Benefits?" by Professor Clyde Dankert of the Department of Economics, and "Cash Flow Through a Business - Where Does the Money Go?" by Mr. Griswold.
