Twenty-five years of unique work for the welfare of the College was marked by the Dartmouth Women's Club of Boston at a 25th anniversary luncheon held at the Women's City Club, Boston, on April 20. Prof. Stearns Morse, Dean of Freshmen, was present as the official representative of the College and was the principal speaker.
Mrs. Hildreth Auer ('27), president of the Club, presented to Dean Morse a check for $700 to be added to the Club's student loan fund. With this gift, total contributions over the 25-year period were increased to $19,000. The Dartmouth Women's Club Fund is used as a revolving loan fund and up to this year has provided loans of $28,500 to Dartmouth undergraduates.
The Club was founded in 1930 to promote friendliness among the women of the Dartmouth family, and has numbered wives, mothers, daughters and sisters of Dartmouth men of Greater Boston among its members. Two years after its founding by Mrs. Frank Ford Hill, a Dartmouth mother, the Club decided that it would supplement its social activities with the establishment of a fund to aid worthy Dartmouth students. An initial gift of $500 was made in 1932 and additions ranging up to $1,000 have been raised annually ever since. No financial aid offered by the College has more heart-warming loyalty to Dartmouth behind it.
In starting on its second 25 years, the Dartmouth Women's Club of Boston extends a cordial invitation to all women of the Greater Boston Dartmouth family to join in the Club's activities. Its friendly aims continue unabated, and financial aid to undergraduates also remains a primary purpose of this unique Dartmouth organization.
Among those at the event were (l to r) Judge Emma Fall Schofield, speaker and former member;Mrs. Frank Ford Hill, club founder; and Mrs. Hildreth Auer ('27), club president.
