Alumni Fund Tops $760,000
July 1955

The bag of superlatives, nearly depleted by the Dartmouth Alumni Fund in recent years, must be dipped into again to bring the ALUMNI MAGAZINE'S readers this semi-final report on the 1955 Fund. Record results of magnificent proportions, both in dollars and in participation, are assured by the near-final figures of July 8, on which date the Fund had $760,000 from 19,100 contributors.

This largest Fund in Dartmouth's history is $60,000 in excess of the 1955 goal of $700,000 and is ahead of last year's record dollar total by the same margin. The 1955 Fund will not only meet the College's full requirements for 1954-55 but will provide in addition $100,000 for specific scholarship use.

Contributors this year number at least 900 more than in 1954 and for the first time exceed 19,000. Last year's participation record of 67.7% is sure to be surpassed, but until memorial gifts are all sorted out the final percentage cannot be figured.

Another 1955 record was set by the Parents Committee, which raised $50,480 from 1,047 parents to toP last year's figures.

This year for the first time in Fund history two classes exceeded $25,000 - 1925 with $28,088 and 1924 with $27,786. Five other classes - 1915, 1921, 1923, 1926 and 1927 — went over $20,000.

The 1955 Fund results were achieved by some 1,800 agents and workers. To them on July 8 a special bulletin bore the semi-final results of the campaign and the warm thanks of Roger C. Wilde '21, Alumni Fund chairman, and Nichol M. Sandoe Jr. '45, executive secretary of the Fund.
