Robert E. Button '36, recently appointed chief of the United States Information Agency's International Broadcasting Service, undertakes, in his new position, responsibility for the operation of the Voice of America and the Agency's television activities. As former deputy chief, Button was credited with the rapid expansion of the Agency's television program, which from a small beginning now furnishes material for more than 150 TV stations abroad. For a number of years, he was a radio and television executive with N.B.C.
With his background in broadcasting, Mr. Button originated and taught a course in this subject at Columbia University, before he left for Washington. An accomplished pianist, he met his wife, the former Decima Knight of London, England, a singer for the British Broadcasting Corporation, while entertaining troops in London during the war. They have two daughters and reside in Arlington, Va.
