Leigh Turner '04, Dartmouth's star tackle of 53 years ago, was the wrong man for a pickpocket to select as a victim. The St. Louis insurance broker, 77 years old, uncorked a perfect tackle when the thief was trying to make a hasty exit from a streetcar with Turner's wallet in late August.

"There's your money, let me go," cried the pickpocket as he tumbled from the streetcar and tried to flee; but a traffic policeman heard the commotion and grabbed him. Turner, whose undimmed prowess made the St. Louis papers, was laconic about the incident. "When somebody takes your wallet you get mad," he said.

Leigh Turner was tackle on the 1903 eleven that produced Dartmouth's first football victory over Harvard. He scored the first touchdown in the game that dedicated the Harvard Stadium.
