Another semester is in the record books and a new one has begun; another Carnival has come and gone; another intensive industry recruiting season is in full swing; another winter is on the wane.
Three members of the Thayer School faculty are on leave of absence. Continuing his leave Prof. John Minnich '29 is engaged in consulting work and is based variously in Etna, Concord, Boston, and New York.
Prof. George Taylor has moved his family to Lake Placid where he will carry on his special studies in the area of engineering economy with special emphasis on economic life and rate of return.
Prof. Jim Browning will remain in Hanover, conducting his research and development work on a part-time basis and devoting the balance of his time to studying new approaches to the teaching of various topics in engineering science based on common fundamental principles with applications in several different fields.
Ken Little CE'53 came to Hanover early last month as a lecturer in the Professional Relations course. Ken is a design engineer in the New York consulting engineering firm of Howard, Needles, Tammen and Bergendoff. His lecture topic was "Experiences of a Civil Engineering Graduate in His First Job." Later in the month, Harvey Graves EE'51 lectured on a similar topic, an electrical engineering graduate. Harvey is an engineer in the Commercial Atomic Power Department of Westinghouse. Both Ken and Harvey gave inter- esting and worthwhile sidelights on the work of the young engineer and their talks were received with enthusiasm by the class.
Bob Price CE'47 has joined the firm of Metcalf and Eddy in Boston. Bob's first assignment was in Al Wilson's (CE'47) group and he reports "they've put me in a corner of CharlieHitchcock's ('39) office at least temporarily." Bob's new home is at 23 Alrick Road, Quincy.
Occasional postcards arrive from Don Phinney '34 from various South American countries where he is traveling and bidding jobs for Morrison-Knudsen Company. Don bought a home in Darien, Conn., over a year ago and has been on the move practically ever since.
Announcement has been received of the marriage on December 28 of Mary Ruth Hazelden to Paul Meyer TT'52, in Waterville, N.Y. Paul left the Eastman Kodak Company last fall to go back to school and is now studying for his Ph.D. in mathematics at Columbia University. The Meyers are at home at 324 W. 88th Street, New York City.
Tom Porter TT'52 has recently completed his tour of duty in the Army and has taken a position in the Purchasing Department of the Westinghouse Air Conditioning plant in Staunton, Va.
Congratulations to Bill Conway CE'54 on his marriage to Florence Clark Scott at Bryn Mawr, Pa., on February 11. After an interesting six-month experience with the Raymond Concrete Pile Company, Bill has entered the Navy via Selective Service.
George Krall ME'55 writes that he is applying for Engineer-in-Training registration in New York state. Since graduation, he has been in General Electric's Manufacturing Training Program in Pittsfield, Mass.
