The appointment of Frank Karpal as freshman football line coach was announced in late February by Director of Athletics Red Rolfe. Karpal replaces Ray Truncellito '49, who resigned to enter private business. A graduate of Michigan State, Karpal was a guard on the 1949, 1950 and 1951 teams, won All-American honorable mention and captained the Blue Squad in the 1952 Blue-Gray post-season classic. He returned to Michigan State as frosh line coach under Biggie Munn before entering the Army. Following service, Karpal coached high school football before accepting the Dartmouth job.
