Spring Fever has, as usual, taken Hanover by storm and the same old sounds - the flailing of golf clubs, the crack of wood on horsehide, the fraternity "hum" rehearsals. The weekends too bring the traditional mass exoduses toward greener pastures to the South. To put it less dramatically, Hanover's probably the same as it was twenty springs ago - the same as it will be twenty years hence. We wouldn't want it any other way.
After 186 days at sea in the Western Pacific, Frank Carlton pulled into San Diego on the 3rd. Frank managed to collect a few news items of interest during his tour of duty that I'll try to relate — if he'll pardon the plagiarism. Frank spent Christmas and New Year's in Hong Kong, and claims it's the most scenic place he's seen since Love is a ManySplendored Thing on the wide-screen.
In his travels, Frank ran into Bill Lenderking and Wil Stratton at the Officers Club in Yokosuka. Bill spent a weekend or two at the Niki ski resort - about six hours from Tokyo - and claims it's a great hotel, but a golfcourse type slope. (This I'd like.) Wil is stationed on Iwo Jima and will return home after "only" ninety days in the Pacific area.
Gale Roberson has found the Philadelphia area to his liking and splits his time about 50-50 between nautical cruises on a "tin can" in the Atlantic and dryer (perhaps) excursions around Philly. Scott Gerrish writes from Pensacola where he and wife Marion are located while Scott learns formation flying with the Navy. Scott's now flying a T-28B (1425 horsepower job). Also in the area are Bill Brownin", Ed Buhlig, and Ed Chapman. GordieHope has now been sent to Barin Field for gunnery and carrier qualification. According to Scott the weather is like Hanover, n.g. (which probably means "no good"), and in his words, they're always "clobbered in" (which probably means "grounded").
Ev Knowles is Communication and Legal Officer aboard the USS Willard Kieth, stationed in Norfolk, Va., and is looking forward to a four months' cruise in the Mediterranean in the near future. Dick Bueschel has reported to Bartok Field, Fla., for his primary flight training with the Air Force after three weeks at Lackland. Joe Herring, who entered the Army last November, has just received his commission after graduating from a 14-week associate company officers course at the Ordnance School in Aberdeen.
Aspiring "tycoon," Don Hummel, at the University of Michigan, writes that Dick Wilson has now joined the Dartmouth Colony at that institution as his roommate, and is also planning to pursue the illusive buck via Business School.
Frank Davidson - who incidentally really isn't engaged as was previously mentioned in this column, but merely the victim of a friendly hoax — writes from Tufts Med. that he ventured to "Haavud" for the basketball game there and ran into a slew of the Green. Mat Smith, Gerry Bernsein, Al Anderson, and Frank represented Tufts, and Phil lie illy was on hand from B.U. Med. Harvard Law students, Pete Fishbein, Dave Page, Bill Hochman, Gerry Kleinman, and Matty Weinberg were also at the contest, and with such a contingent on hand, a party naturally ensued. According to Frank, a "ball room" was reserved at the Harvard Graduate Center, and the crowd swelled with the addition of BarryRubens, Bernie Siskind, Howie Zelikow, and Paul Zimmerman. Several of the crowd attended AI Pill's wedding to Lois Cohen on the following day where Marty Aronson - in top hat and tails - was usher.
Harry Teder and his wife, the former Margaret Sammon of Claremont and Mary Hitchcock, are settled in Chicago where Harry works as a Quality Control Engineer for the Automatic Electric. Company. Harry wonders where all the '55s in the Chicago area are, and offers "a well-stocked liquor cabinet" and "Beta house brand milk-punch" as an incentive for prospective visitors.
Cupid continues his race through the Fifty-five ranks. Andy Beres has become engaged to Patricia Mason of Milford, Mass., presently a senior at Mount Holyoke. Andy is doing graduate work at the University of Connecticut at present.
John Callahan and Nancy Pobst of Jackson, Mich., have recently announced their engagement. Nancy is a senior at Denison U. in Ohio. Cal is a second lieutenant in the Army, training with the Ordnance Corps at Aberdeen.
Joe Oberle, who attended Dartmouth and was graduated from the University of South Carolina in June, will marry Freda Louise Keller soon after graduation. Freda's also a student at the University, and will become a temporary "naval widow" when Joe receives his commission in June.
Dick Hopkins lias joined the crowd and will soon marry Esther Meredith of Pitts-burgh. Esther is a senior at Margaret Morris Carnegie College.
Fred Lione married Sallianne Cordiner of Stamford, Conn., in a ceremony at her home on April 14. Fred and Sallianne hope to settle in Stamford where Fred will continue in business with his father, after a honeymoon trip to the British West Indies.

Tom Maurey was married in Houston, Texas to Joan Peck, a native Houstonian and a graduate of Hood College and Penn State University. Mike Fletcher and Dick Drake, both stationed at Lackland AFB with Tom, were ushers at the affair.
Another Air Force Lt.. Dave Walton, married Alyce Doyle of Haddonfield, N.J. Alyce is a grad of St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing in New Brunswick. Dave and Alyce plan to live in Houston while he is on active duty at Ellington AFB there.
The following item is one of the newsy morsels contributed by the Army Home Town News Center, Kansas City, Mo.: "Ft. Richardson, Alaska — Army 2nd Lt. Joseph H. HoganIII recently arrived in Alaska and is now a member of the 867th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion at Fort Richardson. Military personnel stationed in the Alaskan territory undergo intensive training while guarding the northern approaches to the U. S."
How lucky can you get, Joe? Have a swingin' time. I imagine this is something like what Hanover might be without access to Saratoga, Northampton, Boston or Montreal.
The stork paid a visit to Jim and Jane Hillson March 16 and left Jane knitting pink things for Mary Estella - a 7 lb., 6½ ounce cutie. This reminds me that it's about time to nominate our Class Baby. To be eligible for this contest, kids, your Dad and Mom must have been married after our graduation - so if you fit into this category, and are lying around in your crib with nothing better to do, drop me a line indicating your birthdate and you may be so designated.
That's about it for this month - the home stretch is in sight!
