Graduation plus three. Fifty-six out. Fifty-seven out. Fifty-eight out. Our three underclasses have commenced, and there will no longer be familiar faces on Campus to greet those of us who return. Those neophytes who once avoided us for fear they'd be drafted to carry some moth-eaten couch from Topliff to Lord, now join us in the fraternity of Alumni of the Green. This indeed is a sign of our approaching senility.

Things seem to have quieted down for the summer (witness the length of this column). I've rationalized myself into believing that you're all saving items of note for a summer barrage that will bury me under enough news-bits to feed my famished pen for months to come. At any rate, my fingers are crossed.

Milo White writes from Fort Kobbe in the Canal Zone where he and Tom Schoonmaker have been stationed since last Summer. Milo is with the Protestant Chaplain's Office there, and Tom in Personnel work. Milo's tour will be up in June and Tom's in August. The Whites - Milo, Marilyn, Peter and Michael, will settle in Ann Arbor, Mich., where Milo will study for a Master's Degree in History, and then .move on to a teaching position somewhere. Steve Wilson passed through the Zone aboard the USS Glacier going to and from New Zealand on his second tour of duty with "Operation Deepfreeze." Stew Sanders '56 was also on board.

Lt. Pete Packard is now at Keesler AFB as an Air Force Observer. Pete's family has expanded considerably since his last communication. Roll call: Jon, 1½ Sandy 2½; and "number three" expected in the near future.

Phil Camp, who's associated with his father's insurance agency in Norwich, Conn., is chairman of special gifts committee of the Norwich branch of the American Cancer Society. Phil held the same position last year, so apparently holds the key to success in this line of endeavor. John French helped lead the Griswold Equity Club to a victory in the Harvard Law School's Ames moot court competition last month. John will soon be competing "for real" after he graduates from the school this month.

"Spud" Mansur and Carol Clark were married in Lowell, Mass., last month. Carol is a Vassar gal, Class of '57, and Spud is with the Robert Pitcher Agency of John Hancock Mutual of Boston. Dick Cooper will marry Carol Le Shana of ..Chatham, Mass., on June 14. Carol is a graduate of Mary Hitchcock and has been working in the Children's Medical Center in Boston for the past year. Dick is at Harvard Med. and will graduate this June.

A few quickies: Paul Hollenbeck is a salesman with Lever Brothers working out of Syracuse, N. Y.... Jim Nelsen is "Investment research analyst" with the Northern Trust Company in Evanston, Ill.... Fred Pessl is a student in the Department of Geology at the University of Michigan. Sandy Phillips is a geologist with the Carter Oil Company in Carmi, Ill.... Lud Probst and Jack Sickler are both Seniors at Wesleyan. Jack, by the way, had a great year in football for Wesleyan (see Sports Illustrated). Congratulations - better late than never.

Today, yours truly is left alone in our humble home since Colin Hunt swooped down in an Army "bird" and took roommate Web Wilde northward in an attempted pilgrimage to the Hanover Plain to partake in the festivities of Green Key. Oddsmakers are giving even money as to whether they'll make it or not.

Sad as it may seem, this is the extent of the news at hand, but this scarcity leaves more room for a plug for my long-lost friend, Sky Hill who, as usual, is working his fingers to the bone attempting to get class-wide participation in the Alumni Fund Drive. I don't know about the rest of you Fifty-fives, but I get pretty tired of seeing our class listed at the bottom of these "Green Derbies" and "Tribal Sweepstakes," etc. Insignificant as these "gimmicks" may seem to you, let's try to look at the big picture for a minute. The standings themselves are not the important thing - we don't care if we come in first or not, - what we're looking for is class participation, i.e. all of us pulling together to put this drive over to the best of our ability. The way we make a success of this particular class effort is by digging deep in the old sock for as much as we can afford. Those standings do give us an indication of how we're doing compared with other classes in our "generation," and so far it hasn't been too encouraging. Results would indicate that we've been a "below average" class as far as spirit goes — and we know this isn't the case. Remember the football games freshman year - "Fifty-five Out!" and the tussle with the Syracuse ROTC Unit? And how about the storming of Bartlett Hill? Let's try to put some of this spirit to work on the Alumni Fund Drive and put the Class near the top, where it deserves to be.

Have an enjoyable summer, and send the news and pictures my way. So long for now.

Army Private Jim Cochrane '56 receives congratulations from Brig. Gen. J.A. Heintgeson his selection as Outstanding Trainee ofthe Week at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He wasinducted into the infantry last November.
