PRESIDENT and Mrs. Dickey returned to Hanover on May 22 after an absence of more than three months, during which they visited Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Denmark and England. "It was as fine an experience as one could imagine," said President Dickey of his tour under the auspices of the Carnegie Corporation. Visits to a number of universities, including Bologna, Berlin, Oxford and Cambridge, and discussions with U. S. foreign service officers were part of the tour. "Everywhere we went we saw Dartmouth people," President Dickey reported, "and they were always interested in us." While in England the Dickeys had a visit with Lord and Lady Dartmouth, and they also made a sort of pilgrimage to the town of Dartmouth in Devonshire. Awaiting the President upon his return to Hanover were the year's last meeting of the full faculty, at which he presided the second evening home, and preparations for Commencement.
