Brundage Lodge Dedicated
November 1957

DARTMOUTH Skiway at Holt's Ledge, Lyme, N. H., which opened last winter, is ready for a second and even better winter season, according to a report by Howard P. Chivers '39, Skiway manager.

Skiway patrons this winter will have an opportunity to use the facilities of the fine new Brundage Lodge which was formally presented to Dartmouth on Saturday, September 28, by Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Brundage. Mr. Brundage, a member of the Class of 1916, dedicated the new base lodge in memory of his son, Robert Peter (Pete) Brundage '45, who was killed at Okinawa in 1945. John F. Meek '33, Vice-President and Treasurer of the College, presided at the simple dedication ceremonies. Speakers included Mr. Brundage, Roger S. Brown '45 for the Class of 1945, and Fred C. Hart '58, president of the Outing Club. Brooke Fleck, the architect, then presented the key to the Lodge to President Dickey who accepted the Lodge for the College. Others attending included members of the Classes of 1916 and 1945, immediate members of the Brundage family, and some World War I friends of Mr. Brundage. The comfortable Chalet type lodge contains a main lounge and warming room, snack bar, first-aid room, waxing room, rest rooms and storage facilities.

Other improvements made at Dartmouth Skiway during the summer and early fall include widening of the steep slope at the bottom of the intermediate Lyme Drop Trail, to permit easier descent by alternate routes, and widening of the steep, upper-grades on the Don Worden Schuss. All trails have been carefully groomed and water-damage repaired, the rope tow readjusted and the Poma Lift completely checked. Manager Chivers reports that Dartmouth Skiway is in tip-top shape, ready to go as soon as winter blows enough snow into the North. Country.

Dartmouth Skiway base lodge, now completed, is a memorial to Robert Peter Brundage '45.
