I suspect that many class secretaries are little different from their big brothers, the professional journalists, when it comes to the matter of deadlines. We're always a bare stride ahead of them. I'm no exception. Of course we always seek a good excuse for procrastination and this time I decided there was no point in doing my December stint until after the Yale game where I assumed I would pick up lots of first-hand color and news. As you now well know we saw a fantastic football game in between the showers, but I ran across nary a man of '37! I know Dave Camerer was in the stands with the Carl Rays and the latter told me tonight he saw GusFarwell and Mort Berkowitz outside the bowl. Don Miller was also at the game, but the only familiar faces I glimpsed were a number of old mates of '35.

At about the time you read this column we should have in the mail a class letter giving you lots more dope about reunion. Our planning calls for an executive committee meeting about the third week of November, out of which should emerge sufficient discussion to allow your planners to submit the tentative program and, lest we forget, our budget. In any event you may be certain we are shooting for the most program for the least money. This is going to be your party and the efforts of the various committees will always be directed toward making it the best ever. However, remember that we can always use your suggestions and best offers of aid.

I mentioned that Joe Kiernan was soon to join the ranks of the Benedicts and this came to pass with his wedding to Miss Suzanne Hume in Washington on October 10. I was in Washington several days before the marriage and called Joe but found him at the S. E. C. on business for his employers, the law firm of Smith, Ristig and Smith (that's a relatively manageable handle as names of law firms go). All best to this happy couple.

Before proceeding to more current correspondence it is imperative that I make deserving mention of names and items which came to me during the summer from various sources - mainly news releases and newspaper clips.

I note, first, that Bill Miller, who for the past 17 years has had extensive experience in Southern California's aviation industry, has organized his own firm of Miller Associates in Los Angeles. The company specializes as management consultants in industrial, electronic and technical executive procurement. And now, another of our young men on the way up: Fran Evans, with Prudential Insurance since 1951, has been made director of sickness and accident underwriting. Fran lives in Short Hills, N. J. He and wife Florence have two daughters, Helen 11 and Carol Anne 10. And by the way, if either of you girls has had a birthday by the time this reaches print you drop me a card to tell me I'm behind time. Another Jersey item: Walt Greenspan (Flagstaff Frozen Foods Associates, Inc.) has been named president of Eastern Frosted Foods Association.

A recent item in the New York Times, complete with picture, advises us that Bob Marschalk has been named an executive vice-president of the Vick Chemical Co. Bob has been with Vick since 1937. Nice going. I came across a lengthy article regarding the 75th Anniversary of Parke Snow Company, Boston retail chain. Among the listing of executives of this venerable firm there is mention of Dexter Smith. Dex attended Harvard Business school after leaving Dartmouth. I have a note about Emerson Brightman who has been with that rapidly-growing food chain, Grand Union, since 1948. Em has just been made director of merchandising. I might just note in passing I have a feeling I am one of Grand Union's larger retail customers, food bills being what they are these days. I haven't seen or heard anything of Gen. Royal Hatch for a couple of years but I have a little note that tells me he was Hanover's guest of honor at the celebration of Armed Forces Day last May. Bob Crawford who is up in Glens Falls with the insurance company of that name was this past summer made a member of the Advisory Council of the American Red Cross for the Eastern area. I have a clip complete with photograph from Portland, Me., which gives us a pretty fair run-down on the recent activities of Dr. Frank Young who, among other things, you will recall as captain of the swimming team. Frank is a professor at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, and was a recent collaborator in the authorship of "Understanding the New Testament." Frank combined work with pleasure this summer by spending the season at a camp in Maine as water-front director. I gather that Frank enjoys an enviable rank among the religious scholars of today, an achievement which deserves the admiration of us all.

However, it must be noted that there are others among us who have continued along the road of higher scholarship, since I have advice that Fred Laughton was graduated last June from Northeastern University with the degree of Master of Science and Civil Engineering. After attending Dartmouth, Fred earned his B.C.E. at Ohio State.

And, in closing (a somewhat abbreviated column due to Alumni Fund givers listing), I have a couple of other items, including a clip of a photograph of the attractive family (two girls and a boy) of Gene Jones who lives in Waban, Mass. Also note that BobKenney has been appointed director of product and process licensing for B. F. Goodrich Chemical Company. My editor says that's all for now.
