Since last report, when the swimmers had posted an initial victory over Syracuse, Dartmouth lost to Navy in a very close meet 46-40, defeated Columbia 58-28, Army in a squeaker 44-42, Cornell 57-27 and most recently dropped an expected loss to Harvard by a lopsided 61-25 score. The Indians now have four wins against two defeats with Yale, Amherst, Penn, Princeton and the Easterns remaining on the schedule.

Dartmouth's strength this season rests largely on the Indians' freestyle aces: Captain Bob McCollom and Ernie Drosdick in the sprints and 100-yard freestyle, and Bill Bahrenburg, John Graf, Dave Beattie and sophomore Al Snyder in the 220 and 440-yard events.

Snyder teams up with three other sophomores — Pete Anderson, Mike Pekelsma and Bill White - on the 400-yard medley relay team which now holds the Spaulding Pool record of 4:06.6.

Anderson also teams up with Neil Sween in the backstroke event, while Pekelsma, Walt Augustyn, Jack Daniels and Skip Clark combine in the butterfly and orthodox events. Bob Michael, son of Coach Karl Michael, and Stu Summers are the Big Green's top divers this winter. Larry Lawrence and Mike Pekelsma compete in the breaststroke to round out the top Dartmouth competitors.

Dartmouth's strength in the freestyle events is, however, offset by weakness in the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events and by lack of depth in the diving squad.

In the recent loss to Harvard, Dartmouth's only points came when Ernie Drosdick finished second in both the 100 and 220-yard freestyle, and Skip Clark and Jack Daniels came in one-two in the butterfly event.

A Princeton scoring effort misses in the Winter Carnival game. Dartmouth players shown are goalie Dirk Frankenberg, John Wadman (6), Don Thomas (8) and Phil Larson (10).
