The last mentioned Dick Wilder retired after 17 years as district manager of the Social Security Administration, Springfield (Mass.), and is joining the ever increasing number of '19ers in Florida. Dick had been a very active member of his community and here is wishing him every success in his Florida venture. Bri Greeley notes:
"Again many thanks for the reminder that I am getting on. That Florida appeal gets stronger each year and I hope in the not too distant future to join other members of our class who have settled there - Larry McCutcheon, Norm Sterling, to name a couple. I enclose as a bit of news a copy of the Mobile Mariner that came to hand. In it, I have discovered three pictures of Quiet Fiske of nautical fame. Possibly you can find other references - just gave another quick glance and find a fourth picture. That boy does get around. Hope that you are keeping in good health and that we may have another gathering shortly at the Dartmouth Club."
The "Mobile Mariner" mentioned is thehouse organ of the Socony Vacuum Oil Co.where the aforementioned Captain Fiske isManager of the Ocean Operation Division ofthe Marine Transportation Department. Allhe has to do is as follows:
"With respect to owned and bareboat chartered ocean-going fleet; supervision of vessel performance and analysis of same, assignment and supervision of vessel personnel, collective bargaining, upkeep of hull, machinery and equipment, accident prevention, tank cleaning, loading, discharging, berthing, expediting, piloting, towing, and port services; staff advice on navigation, harbor and terminal problems, port information and cargo segregation and handling procedures. For all marine equipment, employment, personnel record keeping, benefit plan administration, fleet instructions and provisioning and storing."
No wonder the Cap'n is thinking of retiring one of these days. Wallace Baker of Cleveland has been elected president of the Western Reserve Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Wallace has been practising law in Cleveland for many years. Charlie Biddle, now a resident of Newton Highlands, Mass. was a recent visitor at the Hanover Inn. Returning to Florida, Alex Henderson was recently re-elected Mayor of Hillsboro Beach - Congrats, Alex, and if your Sec. ever gets to Florida, he sure will have to check up on the Mayor. Directors of the Dennison Manufacturing Co. have elected Nock Wallis vice-president, in addition to his duties as treasurer. Nock, as previously noted, was 1956 national president of the Controllers Institute of America.
It is not early to be thinking about our Woodstock-Hanover party next October 11-13. Coming on the Columbus Day week-end, rooms will be at a premium, so make your reservations early. Have you sent in your contribution to the 1957 Alumni Fund — a realistic gift - you know the story and the need. If not, why not do it right now - you can send in part of your gift now, and the balance by June 30.
