Thanks again folks —what with the MAGAZINE column and trying to keep up with my correspondence with you classmates, your old Sec. can't seem to find time to send out any cards. A nice letter from Nock Wallis, treasurer of the Dennison Manufacturing Co.: "I was sorry to miss the Woodstock party but for the third or fourth year, I had complicating dates. I did get to Hanover this past weekend to see my youngest grandson (#3), his brother, mother and his father Sam who is a senior and at the Tuck School this year (after 6 years in the Air Force). I also stopped in to say hello to Max Norton who says he likes his new job, that his vacation comes at the time of the class Woodstock party, and that they like their new and smaller house which fits them better now that the younguns have left home (a common occurrence). We talked hospitals too, he being an ex-president and I being a brand new president of the local pill factory."
Dr. H. F. "Wilk" Wilkinson sends a card picturing the Taj Mahal in India and states: "Lives up to all advance publicity. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Nepal, Kashmir and India." Jack McCrillis reports that he also had a card from Wilk saying that he had done some skiing in Kashmir in the Himalayas. The good Doc certainly gets around.
The New York Times reported that Jerome G. Kerwin, Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, has been elected President of the Religious Education Association of the United States and Canada, which held its national conference in Chicago on November 26. The association has some 3,000 members of all faiths interested in religious education, and in studies concerned with values and the spiritual qualities of mankind.
Goldy Goldiere of Davidson, N. C., states"Haven't done much but loaf during thesummer vacation. I do keep busy as Superintendent of the Church School, Master of theMasonic Lodge and Secretary-Treasurer ofthe Lions Club. Hope to get to our next reunion."
Prof. Don Finlayson of Cornell checks inquoting in part:
A little late" say you, but the looked-for and much appreciated birthday card came only one day late. That seems very prompt to me, who is jogging along in low gear after a summer in Maine with my wife, daughter-in-law and two grandsons Three generations in one house — even a 20-room one — for nearly four months should not be tried at 60. It was pretty strenuous fun. But I can now relax to the simpler life of full teaching load com mittee work, reclaiming this place with mower shears, etc. and the fall round of cocktail parties' I was also able to send greetings to Jim Capps via my charming dinner partner at last Saturday's dinner. She was from Utica, and was Smith 1919 Too bad I didn't know that in the days I blind dated there as Kel Smith's ('20) roommate. I've been on sabbatic leave since February and have enjoyed two trips to Virginia and one to New Orleans. I recommend both spots as spring vacation objectives.
Marjorie and Howie Wright note on their Christmas card, "Big news for us during 1957 was the acquiring of two grandsons total grandchildren now five." Among the fall visitors at the Hanover Inn were Mr. and Mrs. Hal Avery of Burlington, Vt., CharlieDearstyne, Mr.' and Mrs. Tom Reilly of Lowell, Mass., and the Pete Greys of Chatham, Mass.
As these notes are being written, the dinner on February 5 in honor of Dr. Hopkins promises to be the biggest Dartmouth affair ever held outside of Hanover.
Once more, my best to all of you for the New Year and please don't forget to write me of your doings - it will make good copy, X can assure you.
