Advance notice is hereby given of the big 1919 fall weekend in Woodstock-Hanover October 3-5. Time of arrival Friday October 3 at the Woodstock Inn - try to get there by 5 P.M. First big event, cocktail party and dinner by ourselves in the Music Room as per last year. Next on the program is the annual luncheon before the game on Saturday in the Ski Hut behind the Inn in Hanover starting at 11:30. Next the game with Penn and back to Woodstock where we will have dinner together in the Music Room, at least we are trying to arrange this with the Woodstock Inn Management. Dinner from 6 to 8 P.M. Two important things to remember - make your own reservations at Woodstock, the sooner the better, as the number of rooms allotted for our use is limited, and there have been quite a few made already. Secondly, mail in your application for tickets for the Penn game as soon as you get the reservation blanks, as this is the big home game of the year, and you know the capacity of Memorial Field. We hope to have our plans for the fortieth reunion in June 1959 well under way by that time and the reunion committee, not yet organized, will welcome suggestions on how to make the fortieth the best ever. Also, if you plan only to come to the luncheon on Saturday, your Secretary would like to know it, as we have to give the Hanover Inn some idea of how many people will be on hand.
A card from Lisa and George Bingham indicates that they are touring Europe with stops in Spain, Naples and Rome.
Dr. Fred Celce of Holyoke, Mass., was a recent guest at the Hanover Inn, presumably to see Fred Jr.
Class sons - Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lashwood Armistead announce the marriage of their daughter, Betty Fern, to Randolph Jennison Hayes, Lt. (j.g.) USNR, son of Rock and Alice Earle, on Saturday, April 5, in Hudgins, Va.
Jim Wilson of Salem, Ohio, writes in:
The invigorating birthday card from the Class of 1919 sure reminded me of the 5th and 25th reunions. Still raise a goblet high occasionally, but not as often. I regretted not being present at the Hopkins party but just could not make plans work out properly. Have a vacation and anniversary trip planned to go to Pinehurst for a couple weeks in April. This summer expect to spend a few weeks at Cape May surrounded by the kids and seven grandchildren. Hope to make Hanover in October. This is a tonic and really puts the old zip back in your veins. George, it is mighty good of you to look after all us fellows with your supercharged 1919 birthday cards. We all look for the cards; in fact, expect it and it is truly a part of the Dartmouth spirit.
Heber Ashley of Grand Island, N. Y., maintenance supervisor for the Buffalo, N. Y., district of the State Department of Public Works was recently named "Engineer of the Year" by the awards committee of the Technical Societies Council of the Niagara Frontier. He is past president of the American Society of Military Engineers and the New York State Association of Highway Engineers. During World War II, he served with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Eddie Seward, now of Pasadena, Calif, giveswith some news of the Sewards:
Here's a note from someone in the class living "West of Philadelphia" that may be of small interest to some of my class-mates. Last August my daughter Janet married a Phi Delt that she had been going with all the time that they both were at UCLA. Since Bill is with General Petroleum and may be transferred anywhere, we saw no good reason to keep our. nine room house in San Marino when we were offered our price. So from the proceeds, we bought an apartment on the "street of dreams" in Pasadena and I have taken the first step toward retirement, I like it very much. The address is 172 South Orange Grove Ave., Apt. 501, Pasadena. I am looking forward to our next reunion next year, and Connie and I hope to see you then or sooner if you come out this way.
San and Jane Treat announce the arrival of granddaughter, Leslie Jane to proud parents Sandy and Marion.
Recent address changes include the following: Walter S. Aylsworth, Supervisor, Baltimore Evening Sun, 501 North Calvert St., Baltimore, Md.: 625 St. Paul St., Baltimore 2, Md.; Charles H. Guy, retired, 5004 Dickens Ave., Tampa 9, Fla.; Samuel W. Murphy, 22 Folsom Place, Brooklyn 8, N. Y.
And now, so long in this column until next October, and have a good summer, but don't forget to keep news on what you are doing coming in to the Secretary and to Dan Featherston. And mark down October 3-5 as the next big 1919 gathering.
Secretary, 1273 North Avenue New Rochelle, N.Y.
Class Agent, Madison Ave., Shelton, Conn.
