Three Changes Made in Development Staff
MAY 1957

REORGANIZATION of the Office of Development, following the resignation of Director Ross Gamble because of ill health, continued last month with new positions assigned to three men. Nichol M. Sandoe Jr. '45 has been named Assistant Director of Development, Gilbert R. Tanis '38 has been named Special Assistant to the President, and Ford H. Whelden '25 has been named Executive Secretary of the Bequest and Estate Planning Program.

As Assistant Director Mr. Sandoe takes over the post held by George H. Colton '35 before his recent promotion to Director of Development. He will continue to be Executive Secretary of both the Dartmouth Alumni Fund and the Class Me- morial Fund program, in addition to having major responsibilities in connection with the capital gifts campaign being launched next fall as part of the 200th Anniversary Development Program. Mr. Sandoe joined the Dartmouth staff in 1948 and has been executive head of the Alumni Fund since 1951.

Mr. Tanis has been an Associate in the Office of Development since 1951. As Special Assistant to the President, the post formerly held by Mr. Gamble, he will continue to be responsible for the corporate gifts program.

Mr. Whelden succeeds Mr. Colton as executive secretary of the bequest and estate planning program. He will be responsible for directing the activities of class bequest chairmen through whom this growing program is conducted. Since 1948, when he first joined the development staff, Mr. Whelden has had duties primarily in the area of research.
