THE transition from winter sports to spring sports is always sudden and surprising. Just about a month ago, the basketball and hockey teams were winding up their seasons. Now, at this mid-April writing, Dartmouth's baseball, lacrosse, tennis and golf teams have returned from spring vacation trips and have embarked on their regular schedules; the Dartmouth Rowing Club has one race under its belt; and the track team opens next week. Dartmouth's informal rugby club has already won a championship, having taken the Bermuda Rugby Week Trophy during spring vacation for the second straight year.
Home contests are rarely scheduled before the last weekend in April because of the North Country's late springs. However, this year there has been little snow on the ground since early February and Dartmouth's spring teams should get plenty of practice along with the away games during the rest of April.
Winning teams, like lower taxes, seem always just around the corner, but the Dartmouth spring teams in general shape up at this early report as some of the strongest of recent years, particularly in baseball, golf and tennis.
