WITH a record attendance of over 275 alumni and wives, the annual spring gathering of Dartmouth class officers took place in Hanover on the weekend of May 3-4. Three joint meetings, eight working sessions of the separate officer groups, and a varied social program, including dinners and athletic events, made a busy two-day period for those who came back as guests of the College.
This year, for the first time, all class newsletter editors were invited to the May meetings, in recognition of the growing importance of this class activity. Also present were class presidents or chairmen, secretaries, treasurers, class agents, bequest chairmen, memorial fund chairmen, and reunion chairmen of those classes holding reunions this year.
Following a College Hall reception by President and Mrs. Dickey, the class officers gathered for a stag dinner at the Hanover Inn, Friday evening, while the wives had their own dinner at Hovey Grill, with Coach Bob Blackman as speaker. Prof. Allen R. Foley '20, newsletter editor, was toastmaster at the Inn dinner, and speakers were President Dickey and Monte Pascoe '57, representing the undergraduates. President Dickey touched upon the new educational program, the Hopkins Center project and the capital gifts campaign. The latter two topics were discussed in greater detail at other weekend sessions.
At the opening dinner the traditional class officer awards for 1957 were made. Herbert H. Harwood '26 was honored as Class Secretary of the Year and Simon J. Morand III '50 as Class Treasurer of the Year. For the first time an award to the Class Newsletter Editor of the Year was made, and this honor went to H. Lyman Armes '12. Citations for all three men will be found with their respective class columns in this issue.

Zimmerman '23, chairman of the Trustee Committee on Development and of the forthcoming capital gifts campaign, spoke on "Dartmouth's 200 th Anniversary Development Program."
