Tuck Discussion Series
June 1957

THROUGH the initiative of a student committee, working under the auspices of the Tuck Clearing House, Tuck School men this semester have supplemented their regular studies with a series of ten Friday evening discussion meetings featuring prominent visiting and faculty speakers.

The series was designed to give Tuck students a chance to discuss non-business problems they will face as individuals when they enter the business world. The whole program, highly successful in its first year, has been managed by a three-man committee of George M. Yeager '56 (T2), chairman; Walter D. Pugh '56 (T2) and Michael Brown '57 (T1).

Guest speakers and their topics, from February 15 through May 16, included President John Sloan Dickey, "The Leadership Role of the Businessman"; Justice Amos Blandin '18 of the New Hampshire Supreme Court, "Legal Ethical Problems"; Prof. Francis W. Gramlich, chairman of the Philosophy Department, "The Businessman and Conformity"; Prof. Fred Berthold Jr. '44, chairman of the Religion Department, "A Religious Perspective for the Business Life"; Harvey P. Hood '18, president of H. P. Hood and Sons, and Dartmouth Trustee, "Non-Business Responsibilities of the Businessman"; Patrick B. McGinnis, president of the Boston and Maine Railroad, "A Philosophy of Management"; Dr. Florence Kluckhohn, Harvard sociologist, "The Role of the Wife"; Dr. Niels L. Anthonisen of the Dartmouth Medical School, "The Businessman's Health"; John P. Langmuir, assistant to Governor Dwinell of New Hampshire, "The Businessman's Political Role"; and The Rev. James A. Pike, Dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York, "A Philosophy of Life for the Businessman."
