DARTMOUTH received over $1OO,OOO during the college year 1956-57 from the Young and Rubicam Foundation and from employees of Young and Rubicam, Inc., New York advertising agency.
The money was received under the corporation's matching gifts program, with $51,112.90 given by employees and that amount equaled by the foundation.
About 70 percent of the money was presented to the class of 1914 scholarship fund and 20 percent was given for plant expansion. The remainder was given to the alumni fund, various class memorial funds, and a special scholarship fund.
As part of its aid-to-education program, the Young and Rubicam Foundation also awarded eight scholarships ranging from $200 to $2,000, depending on need to students who were recommended by employees of Young and Rubicam. A $900 unrestricted grant to the college that the student elected to attend accompanied many of the scholarships. One of the recipients is attending Dartmouth.
