THE 1958 Alumni Fund Campaign which opened April 1 is running at a "surprisingly brisk pace," according to a mid-April report by Fund officials. Because of the Capital Gifts Campaign, now in progress, the 1958 Alumni Fund has taken on a "new look" with no official dollar objective and with major emphasis on participation.
Early reports show gifts totaling nearly $100,000 from some 2,000 alumni and 200 Dartmouth parents. In addition, 1,200 alumni and parents have received Alumni Fund contributor credit because of their participation in the capital gifts campaign.
More than 2,000 class agents are in touch with their classmates, seeking 1958 Fund gifts, and Fund Chairman William G. Morton '28 reports that both enthusiasm and hard work are in evidence as the campaign moves into high gear. About 75% of the Dartmouth alumni are being asked this spring to make their annual gifts to Dartmouth through the Alumni Fund, while the remaining 25% are being solicited for gifts to the capital campaign.
The new look for the 1958 Alumni Fund was given added emphasis by the introduction of a new inter-class competition based on participation only and titled the Tribal Sweepstakes. This competition replaces the traditional Green Derby, in which classes competed on both a dollar and participation basis.
