June 1958

Bernard J. Lewis '52, judged the best Class Agent among the ten youngest classes in 1957, received the John R. Mason Trophy at the May 2 dinner of alumni officers in Hanover. William G. Morton '28, Alumni Fund chairman, made the award and read this citation:

Bernard J. Lewis, Head Class Agent of the Class of 1952: Your leadership of the Class of 1952 for the Alumni Fund during the all-important first five years of its alumni life has been inspiring for all classes and an outstanding example of what a strong, young class can accomplish. In this period, 1952 has increased its annual gifts from $4,000 to just over $7,000 with an accompanying increase in participation - from 75% in 1953 to the 85% achieved last year. In 1957 you added 35 new contributors to your previous record and led all classes with a total of 535 gifts to the Fund. Each year, by detailed planning, a strong agents' organization, and a carefully executed class program, you have succeeded in directing 1952 to new class Fund records. Your efforts and those of your coworkers have been a source of real pride to 1952 and were, no doubt, an important factor in your selection last June as Class Chairman. The Alumni Fund Committee takes pleasure in honoring you and your class this evening by presenting you, as the outstanding Head Agent of the youngest ten classes, with the John R. Mason Trophy for 1957.
