The International House of Japan was the setting for our dinner on the evening of May 14, 1959. Although the group from Yokosuka had some difficulty in finding the spot due to the meager directions of the secretary, we finally assembled in a dining room looking out on a beautiful Japanese garden. The backdrop provided an Oriental Green Key atmosphere as our thoughts went back to Hanover.

Takanaga Mitsui '15, his wife Hiroko, his son and daughter-in-law, Takanobu Mitsui '43 and Tamiko, were the first arrivals. Hartley Caldwell '23 commended Mrs. Mitsui Sr. on her choice of kimono which was a fine Dartmouth Green. Soon Bob Blood '42 joined the growing group and told us of his one year sabbatical in Tokyo for the purpose of studying the Japanese marital structure in conjunction with his marriage course at the University of Michigan. Next, the Yokosuka group arrived, saying, "What do you mean, 15th and D?" Ben Gilson '54 and wife Sarah, Burt Onofrio '54 and date Jan Palludan were among those who confused the 70 yen cab drivers. Burt is with the Navy at Sasebo in southern Japan, but was visiting Sarah and Ben in Yokosuka at the time of our gathering.

Barbara and Sy Grolnick '52 enjoyed one of their last visits to Tokyo before saying sayonara to Yokosuka in June for New York. Roger Haley '41 and wife Dodo commented that they liked Japan so much that they intend to extend their tour in the Far East.

The Class of 1957 was well represented. Chick Igaya '57 introduced his new wife Takayo (or "Wen" for short), and made everyone envious by telling us that he and "okusan" will be traveling to Hanover in June. Chick said they will be leaving Japan sometime around the first of June to be in Hanover for Commencement. Monk Bancroft '57 said that he will also be making a trip to the States, a round trip in July to get married. Jane and Joe Stevenson '57 rounded out the '57 contingent, still confused with Tokyo road maps.

After dinner we viewed some Dartmouth football movies. The snow scenes of the 1957 Princeton game provided quite a contrast with the warm Japanese spring weather we have been experiencing. The evening seemed to fly by ... but we are looking forward to an outing on Tokyo Bay in June which Takanaga and Takanobu Mitsui have planned.
