ACTING on the request of the College and Upper Valley officials that it reconsider its decision to discontinue some sleeping-car service between New York and White River Junction after April 26, the Boston and Maine has announced that service would be maintained for one more year, on a trial basis and on a revised schedule.
Daily except Saturday the sleeping car will be ready for occupancy at White River Junction at 10:30 p.m., to leave at 1:40 a.m. with The Washingtonian and arrive in New York at 8 a.m. The northbound departure time will be 8:25 p.m. from Pennsylvania Station with The Montrealer. The car will be dropped at White River at 3:35 a.m. but passengers may remain aboard until 8 a.m.
President McGinnis of the B & M stated that for the venture to break even and thus be continued, patronage must be almost doubled. He also indicated that the railroad is trying to obtain newer equipment from the Pullman Company to make the run more pleasant.
