Richard C. Gilman '45 became Dean of Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., in August. He also holds the rank of Professor of Philosophy at the well-known liberal arts college.

Dean Gilman for the past four years had been executive director of the National Council on Religion in Higher Education, with headquarters in New Haven. From 1950 to 1956 he taught philosophy at Colby College. He earned his Ph.D. at Boston University and did other graduate work at the University of London. The author of articles on both philosophy and religion, he is a Fellow of the National Council on Religion in Higher Education and an Associate Fellow of the Council of Humanities of Princeton University.

The Gilmans, including four children, are residing at 518 East Fourth Street, Northfield, Minn.
