Weekly Luncheon - 12:00 Noon Wednesday at Kaufmann's Eleventh Floor
Elections for the Club officers took place this summer in the usual careful, well-considered manner. Dick Brown '52 was over in Majorca during the summer and was made president to give the Club an international flavor. The fact that elections took place before he returned was, of course, a large factor in his election. Chuck Queenan '52 and I continue to serve in absentia.
The Club has long contemplated a program of monthly speakers and activities at the weekly luncheons and we have finally elected an executive officer who has put the idea into practice. Television star Chet Smith '20, Sports Editor of the Pittsburgh Press, inaugurated the program with an informal analysis of the local athletic teams - pro, college and high school. The rest of us left the luncheon feeling that we had been given a privileged insight into the whys and wherefores of every major sporting event which took place during 1959.
With this impetus the program continued in high gear as the inimitable Stu Steffey'41 arranged for a viewing of the 1958 football high-lights and Chet Smith arranged for Joe L. Brown, General Manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, to give us a low-down on the difference between the 1959 and the 1960 Pirates. Following in Chet's foot-steps, Mr. Brown revealed the inner workings of major league baseball and of the mental lapses of a number of major league ball players, and the attentive audience enjoyed every minute of both the formal presentation and the question and answer period.
We were happy to learn that William Mullin '60, son of Howard J. Mullin '27 has achieved the high scholastic honor of being a Tunior-year Phi Bete.
This will serve as a first notice to those of you in our local Club that the Dartmouth Glee Club will be in town this spring. Under the able guidance of Bob Funkhouser'50, the local Club will once again serve as host to the aggregation which has been, as a result of its fine publicity campaign, making a name for itself as the country's outstanding Glee Club.
