July 1960

ANOTHER fine year on the Dartmouth athletic front has ended. As in previous years, we report first on the late spring results and then peek ahead to fall and what may be in store for the varsity football team.

The 1959-60 season ended on a note o£ farewell as three coaches retired during the month of June. DeOrmond "Tuss" McLaughry, chairman of the College's Physical Education Department was head football coach in 1941-42 and from 1945 until 1954. Harold "Chick" Evans, a member of the Physical Education Department since 1928, was freshman basketball coach for nearly twenty years, from 1928 to 1942 and from 1950 until 1954

Veteran soccer and lacrosse coach Tom Dent is the third man who will be missing next year, forced by illness to give up coaching. He will be on terminal leave of absence until his formal retirement next June.

It has been announced by the DCAC that Irving F. "Snuffy" Smith '41 will return, after a year's leave of absence, as Associate Director and Business Manager of the Dartmouth College Athletic Council. His replacement during the past year, Seaver Peters '54, will take a position in the office of the Comptroller of the College.
