In the March issue of the magazine "New Hampshire Profiles" there is an article about Suncook Valley, one paragraph of which mentions our honorary member. "Down at the Pembroke end of the Valley lives one of New Hampshire's giants — the kind Daniel Webster meant when he said 'New Hamp- shire makes men.' This is Laurence Whittemore, who was chairman of the board of the Brown Company up in Berlin."
Arthur Kelley retired in 1954 after a long and successful record of teaching in the St. Louis public schools. The last fourteen years he was principal of the Cleveland High School. Shortly before his retirement the Kelleys bought a small farm with the intention of trying their hands at farming. After suffering a heart attack Arthur decided to take up something less strenuous so they purchased the English Inn Restaurant and Motel just south of Red Bud, Ill., about forty miles north of St. Louis. With the aid of Marion and his son, Billy, they have been operating successfully and enjoying it.
On January a Howard Chidley celebrated his 82nd birthday at his home, Grey Rocks, with a buffet supper for his friends. Among those present was a group of fishermen with whom he went fishing every year on Moosehead Lake, Me. Undoubtedly many tall tales were told during the evening. As you probably know, Chid was pastor of the First Church of Winchester for 37 years during which time the membership more than tripled.
Bob Adriance tells me that Florence and he were married by Chid in the Dartmouth College Chapel, Hanover, the summer of 1913 when he was preaching there.
A letter from Anne Perley tells of the passing of Sue Hanlon. Those of us who have been back to reunions will recall that Anne and Sue were always present and contributed much to the enjoyment of the occasions.
