The Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia royally welcomed the Dartmouth Glee Club at the handsome Philadelphia Country Club this past month in what has traditionally become a highlight of the club's activities. Knowing Bud Silverstein's propensity for Dartmouth songs, I wish he had heard the club's repertoire, including Robert Frost's "Stopping By Woods" set to music. An excellent concert by talented young men. Looked in vain for 43's. Harry Bishop was a patron, but told me on the phone next day he had to sit on the floor. The face that looked like Binney Tower's wasn't, for the Carbon-paper King of Delaware Valley was home ill.

Binney reported that Shirley and he recently made a swing north through Bronxville visiting Bill Leo and seeing Alex Nagle en route. I missed the U. S. Lines National advertisements featuring Alex and wife Mary, endorsing sea travel. As an old voyager on the Hoboken ferry, I know what they mean.

Early in March George Munroe gathered the luncheon group of Pete Heggie, Mike Frothingham, Pres Moore, Don Reich, and Bus Mosbacher to discuss early plans for the Alumni Fund Campaign. Since then, George has written enthusiastically about our class achievement in contributing $155,413.94 to the Capital Gifts campaign and urging us to swing right into the Alumni Fund. While I know many of you are still paying pledges (and I'm delinquent at the moment myself), I know there are others who for one reason or another haven't given in the past (219 of you missed contributing to that $155,413.94). The goal of $1,000,000 this year is not unreasonable or impossible. I know you will get behind George and our other determined agents (including Bud Silverstein, a redoubtable volunteer again this year) in reaching their goal of $9,000 for the class.

From the press ... Murray W. Thurston gave Maine politics a shot in the arm when he announced he will stand for reelection to state senate from Oxford County next November. President of the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, trustee of the Rumford Bank and Trust Company, Murray is also vice president of J. A. Thurston Company in Rumford and takes part in management of the Thurston dairy farm. With their three sons, David, John, and Peter, Connie and Mike Thurston have all the ingredients of political appeal, and my friends up there say he is one of the bright young men in Maine politics Warren Taylor, member of one of the country's leading surgical teams at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, lectured to the Foxboro Company Technical Group on "Open Heart Surgery." ... Ren Grevatt, critic and columnist for "The Billboard," music and record trade magazine, was photographed in the Saturday Evening Post last fall with his wife and five children outside their Upper Montclair home. Noticed Ren's name on a record blurb recently

Pres Moore with a two-page spread in the March 13 New York Herald Tribune looks like 43's up and coming young architect. I'd like him to design one for me - starting with a big closet and working out.

Aside to Ken Turner '28, Tomkins Cove, N. Y.... Nice to know that twenty-three of this class have sent subscriptions and renewals for all published periodicals (including the Wall Street Journal) to your excellent agency. Count me as a happy customer. We all need your service — and your courage.

Men on the move ... Dr. Berger H. Carlson, 23 North Fruit Street, Concord, N. H.... Raymond A. Schroth, Quaker Hill, Pawling, N. Y ....Fred F. Stockwell, 6 Legewood Road, Winchester, Mass.

From sunnier climes ... Larry Noble writes from San Juan, where he has lived for nine years as vice president of an asphalt and paint firm. His wife Ann and he have four children from three months to ten years two boys and two girls. He occasionally sees Kirk Lallande, who manages a division of Caribe Motors, a very large dealer. I agree with Larry that Puerto Rico is perfect for the thin-blooded but hot-headed and I'd welcome a chance any time to get back there. ... From Miami Norm Askey writes news of son Billy's arrival on March 22. The Askey family is now composed of five children all under six including Steve five and a half, Barbie four and a half, Skeeter three, and Mary two. Obviously, Norm and Mimi are glad they're away from the snow-suit league.

I have just about two more of these columns to do before the summer hiatus. Remember, I'm offering a prize for the best letter, and desperate enough I might even offer a prize for any letter. Meanwhile, get in your Alumni Fund contributions - now.

Pennsalt Chemicals, with headquarters in Philadelphia, recently announced that Smed Ward has been given a new Isotron sales assignment, shifting him from Cleveland to the New York territory. Before joining Pennsalt in 1957, he was sales representative for Gulf Oil in Philadelphia. Smed is a veteran of World War II and the Korean war and held the rank of Commander in the Navy. He has been residing in Hudson. Ohio, and will now relocate near New York with Alice and the four kids.
