The big event of the Dayton alumni group's early spring has been the visit to Dayton on the evening of March 23 of Gil Tanis '38, Executive Officer of the College. We had a very well-attended and enjoyable dinner meeting with Gil at the Trailsend Club, and as part of his remarks following a most enjoyable dinner, Gil showed a series of colored slides recently taken of the Hanover scene. All in all, it was a fine evening with 22 of our local number present.
At the moment of writing, the recruiting activities for next year's freshman class are approaching a climax, what with acceptances due to be announced early in May. Dartmouth is still very much in the running as far as several of the top prospects in the area are concerned. Chairmen Tom Gillaugh '46 (Enrollment) and Dick Scharrer '46 (Interviewing) have been very active and all of us are optimistic, although as usual some of our sister institutions are offering severe competition.
As for names in the news, Lem Arnold '44 has left Dayton, having been transferred back to the home plant of Lockheed at Burbank, Calif., and as you read this he is undoubtedly once more well established in the San Fernando Valley. Bob Davidson '39 is accepting the congratulations of his many friends in Dayton on having been elected to the presidency of the Kurz-Kasch Company, a local manufacturer of plastics. Bob, typically, states that he has not been in the job long enough to learn how to get rid of the work, but we know that Bob will learn. John Doty '52 has left the Dayton area and we understand that he is now a resident of Dallas, in a manufacturing business of some sort.
Late in March, we had the welcome news that the President of our group, Howard Roxborough, has returned to Dayton and is convalescing at home after a difficult winter bout with a series of operations. Home is better than the Mayo Clinic, and the entire Dayton group sends a big "Welcome Home" to Roxie and wife, Betty.
With Alumni Fund Activity now under way, it will no doubt be another busy spring.
