At a brief ceremony held late in February in the main lobby of the Hanover Inn, Jorge Dandier '63 of La Paz, Bolivia, presented the Dartmouth College Museum with the valuable Bolivian "Devil Mask" shown in the picture. This intricate and highly ornate creation is part of the costume worn by a dancing troop known as Diablada during a centuries-old Bolivian religious festival held each year on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday. Jorge had the mask made up by one of the famous artists who specialize in this highly complex craft, and to insure safe arrival he persuaded airline officials to let him carry it on his lap during the plane trip from La Paz.

Prof. Alfred F. Whiting, the Museum's curator of anthropology, accepted the mask on behalf of the College. Also present was Willy Pacheco '63, of La Paz. As far as can be determined, Dandier and Pacheco are the first Bolivian students ever to attend Dartmouth.
