Dartmouth's lacrosse story is ably told elsewhere (see "Coaches Corner") by the old master, Tom Dent. There is little doubt that Tom's absence for three weeks due to bursitis affected the team, although his student replacement, Randy Malin, did a very creditable job. But as Randy himself admitted, "I can't talk to these players like Tom can."

In the three most recent games - all since Dent's return - Dartmouth played surprisingly well, although they dropped two of the three contests. In the most recent contest the Big Green had a 5-3 halftime lead over Harvard, but suffered a bad letdown in the second half and lost finally, 12-7. Previously the Indians had outhustled Holy Cross for the third win of the season by a 14-0 score. Perhaps the best game of the season was played against league-leading Yale, with the Indians pulling to a tie at half time but finally yielding in a wild second period by a 7-3 score. In previous games during the past month the lacrosse team had lost to Princeton, 7-6, Syracuse, 21-12, Cornell, 9-1, New Hampshire, 12-7, and Middlebury, 13-1, for an overall record of only three wins against nine defeats.

An inexperienced goalie, coupled with a weak defense, a mediocre mid-field section and an unusually heavy injury list, has served to make this spring one of the poorest in some time for Dartmouth lacrosse.
