A goal of $1,000,000 has been set for the 1961 Alumni Fund Campaign, the 47th in the College's history and the first full-fledged campaign since 1957. A similar goal, though not achieved, was set last year while many alumni were still participating in the Capital Gifts Campaign.
The objective for 1961 was officially voted upon and approved by the Alumni Council at its meeting held in conjunction with the Cleveland Regional Conference in January.
John D. Dodd '22, national chairman of this year's campaign, has voiced the hope that the all-time high figure can be reached. To achieve this mark, however, it is realized that alumni and parents will have to equal or better the 1957 record of participation. In that year the College program of annual giving realized $928,000 from 20,714 alumni, parents and friends. Some 71.3 per cent of all living alumni contributed, which set a national alumni participation record at that time.
With the April 1 opening date for the campaign approaching, it has been announced that Myron W. Krueger of Short Hills, N. J., has been named chairman of the special Parents' Committee. Now in its tenth year, this volunteer committee solicits support for the College among parents of students. Its goal for 1961 is $60,000, some $3,000 more than the record amount raised in 1957.
Mr. Krueger's appointment marks the first time that the father of a freshman has held the chairmanship of the Parents' Committee. He is the father of Myron W. Krueger Jr. '64. Professionally, Mr. Krueger is an international consultant and former executive vice president of Raymond International, Inc. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin and is a trustee of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
In 1958 the Alumni Fund Drive was merged with the Capital Gifts Campaign which produced $17,575,000 for new plant needs and for faculty compensation. Now back in full operation again, the Fund Committee will have over 2200 agents representing some sixty classes working to achieve the goal during the campaign which ends June 30.
Mr. Dodd, the new chairman of the Alumni Fund Committee, is vice-president of the New York Telephone Co., a member of Board of Trustees of the National Foundation, the New York Board of Trade, and the Manhattan Empire Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He has served as head agent for his class and is past president of the Class Agents Association. He is a member-at-large of the Alumni Council.
