Record Enrollment
NOVEMBER 1972

With the largest freshman class it has ever enrolled—799 men and 177 women for a total of 976—it is not surprising that Dartmouth's full-time undergraduate enrollment of 3387 is also a new record for the College. This is an increase of 122 over last fall's total.

Of the undergraduates enrolled, 149 are studying away from Hanover for the fall term and 3238 are in residence.

In addition to the 177 women in the freshman class, 190 others are in the upper classes—36 as seniors, 16 as juniors, 23 as sophomores, and 115 as exchange students for one year. The total of 367 represents slightly more than 12% of the undergraduate enrollment.

Full-time graduate students number 545 this fall. There are 55 women in this group, raising the total "feminine presence" to 422.

The College's enrollment summary for the fall term also includes 207 part-time students, 25 taking undergraduate courses and 182 doing graduate work, and 46 of these are women. All together, under the heading of "grand total," Dartmouth thus has 4139 students registered at the start of its 203rd year.
