Hardest hit of all by the weather and poor playing conditions are the freshman teams which have no opportunity for a southern warm-up trip. Freshman baseball coach Eddie Jeremiah, for example, has had to look at his 69-man squad only indoors and is reluctant to point to any strong players at this early stage. He does indicate that the material looks promising, particularly in the pitching department, and that he will have some good hitters.

The same is true of lacrosse where Coach Michael has had a limited opportunity to look over his 45-man squad. Sixteen candidates, however, have had some secondary school lacrosse experience - nine midfielders, four on attack and three at defense - which bodes well for the coming season. Mike Herriott, Don Hight, Tom Sieminski, and Fred Mock have all had at least two years of lacrosse experience and all should make the first team.

The freshman tennis and golf teams are completely unknown at this -writing and must await dryer conditions before coaches Red Hoehn and Tom Keane can make any appraisals.

Coaches Ellie Noyes and Bruce Hescock, however, can report an optimistic outlook for freshman track as most of the lads who swept the winter team through an undefeated season will be in action again this spring. The frosh will be particularly strong in the field events, with Bob Cahners in the 16-pound hammer toss, Charley Greer in the shot put, Gary Foote in the broad jump, Lynn Bates in the pole vault, and Ted Love and George Estabrook in the high jump. Captain Woody Flowers is outstanding at the quarter-mile and Bob Neuman is a top candidate in the mile race. Ernie Oxboel and Steve Blake team up again in the dash events, with Steve Ward ranking as the top hurdler.
