Secretary of the Year
June 1961

Jack Hurd '21 received the accolade of Class Secretary of the Year at the May 5 dinner of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover. His citation follows:

There is a well-worn path from your study in Sanborn House to the files of the class of 1921 in the Alumni Records Office in Crosby Hall. Although true that few class secretaries have this wealth of class information at their immediate disposal, few, if they did, would make 'the full use of these sources that you do. Your thorough and thoughtful work as Class Secretary of '21 is unparalleled.

Since your election in May of 1958, you have written personal letters to each classmate each year at the time of his birthday. One has only to read the return notes in the '21 files to know how much these efforts are appreciated by the members of your class. You have consistently received returns from men that the Alumni Records Office has not heard from in years. And it should be mentioned that, your full letters of greeting are hand-typed entirely by you.

Charlotte Morrison sums up your good works as follows: "Jack Hurd has more personal contact with his class and works harder than any other secretary I have ever known. He is my ONE AND ONLY nominee for best class secretary this year!"
